Backgorund, Activities and Governance StructureThe primary objectives of this organization are:To promote awareness of Indian ethnic identity and its cultural and spiritual heritage. To organize cultural events involving (without limitation) Bengali and other Indian traditional and contemporary songs, drama, and dances. To plan and host periodic educational conferences and meetings to allow members to learn, network, and share experiences for personal and career development. To organize events to raise funds for the relief of distress and other charitable causes. Since the year 2000, the organization has been conducting a multitude of events for the target audience – performing arts, cultural, social, spiritual, group activities, networking, and counseling. These events were well received by the communities involved, and gave those attending, an opportunity to learn and appreciate the cultural differences among various communities and provided them a chance to assimilate in the communities they are living in. Over the years, participation and the demand to do more for the target audience have grown and with this ever-growing interest shown, there was a need for a formal organization which can serve the target communities in a better and effective way. The organization would like to extend the current benefits to over 1000 members by the end of this year. The organization intends to provide a platform for its members to showcase their talent, practice and perform their art, and educate the community at large. It will also organize other social, cultural, educational, and spiritual events and activities, thus providing opportunities for its members to participate and engage themselves in such activities and enrich their life. These services are currently not otherwise available to individuals in the target communities, whom the organization plans to serve. The organization's purpose in engaging in such activities is to provide a place for cultural dialogues and to develop educational and social skills for families to become better citizens of the world. The organization will also provide counseling to new immigrants from the target communities and help them during their initial footprint in the country so that they can become good citizens of the community they live in.
